NEW! 2007 Garbage and Recycling Collection Schedule
Includes recycling guidelines, for computers, tires, and waste oil. Great information for the environmentally conscious community!

The Community Recycling Program is an environmental project designed to "help us help nature." The curbside pickups are completed by a contracted private carrier to recycle tin cans, aluminum, plastic jugs and other bottles, glass bottles, newspapers and cardboard.

Managing Used Oil

City of Brillion Residents may put used oil in a clearly labeled container like a milk jug and set it next to the recyclables on recycling day. You may also ask your auto dealer or auto repair garage if they'll accept your used oil. Otherwise, use a professional oil changing service and let them manage your used oil.

Used Computers and Computer Equipment

The City of Brillion does not have the capabilities of collecting used computers and equipment. Computers and their peripherals contain a number of hazardous wastes that are harmful to the environment, including lead, cadmium, and mercury. Wisconsin hazardous waste regulations (ch. NR 610 and 615) prohibit businesses and institutions from disposing of computers in landfills. No similar regulations apply to Wisconsin residents, but for those who are concerned about the integrity of Wisconsin's environment, there are a few options to consider:

  • Check with schools or nonprofit organizations to see if the computer is worthy of reuse. Donations are tax deductible.

  • Deliver your used computer/parts to the Brown County Household Hazardous Waste facility at 2561 S. Broadway, Green Bay. Get more details by calling the Calumet County UWEX office at 920-849-1450 or 989-2700 or http://www.co.brown.wi.us/solid_waste/index.htm

  • Deliver your used computer to one of the Department of Corrections used computer drop-off sites. Sites closest to Calumet County are located in Oshkosh, Fond du Lac, and Plymouth. http://www.buybsi.com/images/PDF/dropoffsites.pdf

  • Utilize the Department of Natural Resources Recycling Markets Directory to locate a potential outlet. Search for electronics. No endorsements are implied of companies included in the directory. http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/markets/matsearch.asp

Yard Waste Disposal Services and Facilities

City Compost Site

Location: USH 10 (Ryan Street), behind the Vocational School
Hours: Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Facility Usage: City Residents Only

Yard waste may be disposed of at the City compost site daily. The City compost site is located on W. Ryan Street (Hwy 10), behind the Vocational School.

  • Yard waste includes all materials originating in the yard and garden, which are capable of natural decomposition, including leaves, grass clippings, and other vegetation.

  • Stumps, root balls, brush, limbs and branches may be taken to the Compost Site.

  • Please place items in the appropriate bin.

  • Please do not leave boxes and bags at the compost site. These materials will not readily decompose.

  • Homeowners are encouraged to return grass clippings to the soil in their lawn. It not only takes away the hassle of having to bag the clippings, but it also puts organic nitrogen (a valuable fertilizer) back into the soil.

Please do not dispose of garbage, white goods, recyclables, construction materials or tires at the Compost Site. These items may be disposed through Onxy Waste Services.

Curbside Chipping

During the spring, summer and fall, the City will chip all brush, branches and limbs that have been placed on the curbside the first Monday of the month, May - October (weather permitting.)

The last day of curbside chipping will be the first Monday in October.

Branches and limbs must be no longer than six (6) feet in length and no more than six (6) inches in diameter.

Wood Chips: Half or quarter loads of wood chips may be picked up at the City Compost Site.

The City encourages residents to take brush, branches and limbs to the City Compost Site.

Please do not mix the compost materials (grass clippings, leaves and miscellaneous vegetation such as flowers, garden plants, etc.) with the brush, branches and limbs.

Yard waste may be disposed at the City Compost Site daily.

Curbside Leaf Pickup

Beginning in early October, City Residents may rake leaves into the curb line of the street.

  • Please do not place leaves in the curb line at any other time. Rather, compost leaves on site, or dispose of them, without charge, at the City Compost Site.

  • When raking leaves into the street, please place them into shallow/small piles along the curb line, one (1) foot away from the curb if possible.

  • Leaves in the terrace area will not be picked up.

  • Please do not mix branches, limbs or brush with the leaves, for they clog the street sweeper.

If you wish to get rid of the leaves in a more timely manner, you may take them to the City Compost Site.
